Avalanche....

I will use this blog to reflect and update, since it is apparently impossible for me not to create

Somewhere.......

between Images of human bones and muscles and how they move (kinesiology class I am taking)
I find memories of free-ski icons of late

They are dying......sliding......into ice covered oblivion's
snowy and cold
or smashing into rocks, they thought they could jump.....
standing in the wake of avalanche’s they create

this end has tempted me
and I have seen glimpses of it, so I can hear the scrape of metal on ice,
when it grabs and then releases.....slip!
and gor-tex interfaces, creating a sled......
headfirstsliding,everythingisWOOSHINGpast....... and there is a sense of FREEDOM
riding the wave of life is what we are made to do.....

I have never grasped this sensation above a precipice that would finish me
but i can imagine it.......

They are dying, the leaders of this scene
which indicates to me
we have reached the apex
human body can’t take anymore
standing in the wake of avalanche’s they create

The souls transition
and friends and family know they made the choice long ago, SORROW
is not collected

...........

the earth calls
for respite
and the weather pounds, with fury
and talented souls are passing

What are we holding onto?
is there a reason?
Is our end impending?......

And the trees and the animals and the earth know this.
standing in the wake of avalanche’s they create

I can feel the spirit of life, it pulses in the places I least expect
rests in the breasts of my friends
hangs from the trees in the gentle green forest,
waits in the ice crystals on top of the snow
expands and contracts each time I breathe

...I feel

The alpine breath on my neck as a reminder that our days are numbered
because we have destroyed the earth
and the cycle is turning.....again
as it does always

All we know is change will come

Hold onto those you love

To the North.....

Hello any sweet soul who bothers to read my blog!

Photography has bestowed many gifts, mostly in the form of rich experiences and memories. I have spent the last couple of years grappling with the idea of giving it up as a career but it is officially time.

I have moved to Bellingham, WA and started a Physical Therapy Assistant Program. This exciting move is a long time coming and I love the program and my classmates. Since i have not been able to replace my stolen camera body and have sold most of my lenses I hardly shoot now.

I hope to keep editing all the past, and shoot again as a hobby when I am not buried in books and exams......ah, someday. Thanks to all who read this blog, much love to the world. Feel free to contact me with questions!

It is with a heavy heart that I begin 2011's posts. I personally feel estranged from my creative force. Since i lost my camera a year ago this has been a common reality......so I begin to write.

I learned tonight of a friend's commencement with his cancer battle. The last time I saw him he had a quiet pain in his eyes that i did not sense the depth of. I feel lucky to have known him and deep sorrow for his young family. He was expected to struggle, but many of us hoped he would win, which maybe in the end he did.

It is a wake up call for me. Death will come closer now. I have known people who have died in the past, but they have been distant, largely. This hits much closer and feels a bit like a fire cracker which scribes in smoke, " live your life, love your family and friends, cherish each day you have with them!". There is no time for excuses. Death claims even the sweetest souls.

I imagine a spiral, made of little river stones. They sweep in and with time some of them go missing. The lines are broken, the spiral is not wholly complete anymore. We are left with memories where flesh once stood. I now retreat to my world of snowflakes. Each one is different, I love each and every one of them.

April has been a month of some of new things for me........namely, encounters with sleds. I got to both ride on one and be towed by it, which is not a novel thing in the Kootenays, but first for me!

Check out these images from a beautiful spot which we sledded into and hiked/skied some steep powdery lines :)
